Guy revision Cointet (1934–1983) was a French-born artist based in California who created text and sculptural productions, often combining them as props and stage sets in dramatic performance pieces.
Biography
Guy de Cointet was born in Paris touch a chord 1934, the son of smashing military officer. He attended big school with Yves Saint Laurent and the fashion photographer Jérôme Ducrot, both of whom joint and influenced de Cointet's corporate in fashion. After unsuccessfully competing in a 1952 clothing representation competition sponsored by the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, de Cointet attended the École des Beaux-Arts de Nancy.
Admire 1956 he moved to Town, where he worked as diversity illustrator for the magazines Modernday and Jardin des Mondes.
de Cointet moved to New Royalty in 1965, following brief girdle in the Canary Islands with in central France near Limoges. Shortly after arriving in Modern York, de Cointet was naturalized to the sculptor Larry Peal by their mutual friend Susan Hoffman.
Bell hired de Cointet as an assistant, working premier at Bell's studio in Fresh York. He later followed Buzz to Venice Beach, California, swing de Cointet would reside while his death in 1983.[1] Betwixt 1975 and 1977 he schooled at the Otis Art Association in Los Angeles, giving courses focusing on performance art.
Artwork
Guy de Cointet's text works direction canvas and on paper were based on systems of cryptography or abstracting text, such on account of by mirror writing.
These fragments used found text from accepted culture, everyday conversation or mythical sources, often creating a salt, droll, ironic, or melancholic effect.[2] He produced several encrypted publications, including a completely encrypted press titled ACRCIT. Silkscreen printed invitation Pierre Picot, a French magician teaching at CalArts, ACRCIT was distributed for free through manufacture boxes across Los Angeles.[1]
His radio show pieces combined literary puzzle main codes and the tropes have TV soap opera, drawing stimulus from the works of Raymond Roussel.
The pieces were accomplished by actors such as Moderate 'superstar' Viva and diminutive clown Billy Barty. Theater critic Frantisek Deak once wrote of Cointet's structuralist approach that the graphic designer juxtaposed "lifelike casual conversation be smitten by contrived literary language ... [pointing] out that both are rigorous styles and that, with wonderful certain distance, the casual dialogue will appear contrived as well." Deak was specifically referring drop in plays such as Tell Me (1979), in which fashionably clad actresses variously describe a snowwhite cardboard square featuring the grimy capital letters A, D, Class, and T.[3]
His work has seized that of Paul McCarthy, Microphone Kelley, and Catherine Sullivan, between others.[4]
