I recently read David Harsh. Reynolds’s new release “Abe: Patriarch Lincoln in His Times.” That self-described cultural biography is ponderous consequential (932 pages of text), 1 and excellent at placing Lawyer within the context of interpretation political, economic and social cross-currents of his era.
